What is LPMA?

The Lebanese Preventive Medicine Alliance is a national platform connecting students, researchers, healthcare professionals, and partner institutions in Lebanon to advance prevention through education, research, advocacy, community action, and sustainable collaboration. It is grounded in the conviction that preventing disease is as important as treating it.

Lebanese
A national initiative rooted in Lebanon and focused on addressing the country’s preventive health needs.

The central focus of the Alliance: promoting health, reducing risk factors, encouraging early detection, and preventing disease before it develops or progresses.

Our story

The Lebanese Preventive Medicine Alliance (LPMA) is a national, student-led, interdisciplinary initiative founded by Rayan Rehayel and Joana Rehayel, medical students at Beirut Arab University (BAU) in Beirut, Lebanon, together with Professor Eugénia Carvalho of the Centre for Neuroscience and Cell Biology, University of Coimbra (CNC-UC), Portugal.

The idea for LPMA developed during Rayan and Joana’s research exchange at the Centre for Neuroscience and Cell Biology of the University of Coimbra (CNC-UC), Portugal, under the supervision of Professor Carvalho.

Vision

LPMA envisions a healthier Lebanon in which prevention is embedded within education, research, healthcare practice, public policy, and everyday community life.

Mission

The mission of LPMA is to unite and empower students and professionals from diverse disciplines to advance preventive medicine in Lebanon through education, research, community initiatives, advocacy, leadership development, and strategic collaboration.

LPMA is built upon five strategic pillars that guide its mission, activities, and long-term vision. Each pillar represents a key area of focus, ensuring a balanced approach to advancing preventive medicine through education, research, community engagement, advocacy, and organizational development.

    Strengthening knowledge, skills, and competencies in preventive medicine among students, healthcare professionals, and the wider community.

    Includes workshops & seminars, webinars, educational campaigns, health education resources, leadership development.
